Matthew Carey
PianistA graduate of the Elder Conservatorium, Matthew Carey has performed extensively around Australia.
His passion for music theatre and cabaret has seen him work on a number of National and Local theatre productions and present cabaret shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Prior to co-creating ‘Flat On Your Bacharach’, Matthew was musical director of the cabaret act Straight Out for eight years with productions including tribute concerts of Sinatra, Bernstein and Sondheim music and three cabaret shows, 'Love Bites', 'Lies of Handsome Men' and 'Schwartz & All'.
His musical theatre experience includes musical direction of local productions of ‘Chicago’, ‘Victor Victoria’, ‘Close Than Ever’, ‘Company’ and ‘Hair’, keyboard playing with 'The Phantom of the Opera' orchestra, and repetiteur work with the State Theatre Company and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
Matthew was Keyboard 2 player and Deputy Conductor with 'Singin' In The Rain' in its 2002 Adelaide season.
As well as his continuing work with ‘Flat On Your Bacharach’, in 2003 Matthew been involved as musical director for a number of productions at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival including ‘The Fabulous Singlettes’ and ‘15 Minutes of Fame’, and was Assistant to Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown and repetiteur for the show ‘Songs For A New World’.
