REVIEWS
LORD BERNERS
- SONGS AND PIANO MUSIC
IAN PARTRIDGE (ten) LEN VORSTER (pf) MARCO POLO 8.225159 (52 minutes:DDD)
GRAMOPHONE OCTOBER 2000: A delightfully performed collection by one
of Britain's most progressive composers of his day, the eccentric Lord
Berners. Len Vorster backs him [Partridge] up splendidly and is completely
at home in the solo piano music. The recording is truthful.
LONDON DAILY TELEGRAPH 22 JULY 2000: Len Vorster plays the piano pieces
on this disc with idiomatic vigour (Polka, March and Valse ) and suitably
aggressive virtuosity (Fragments psychologiques and Trois Petites Marches
funbres ). The songs offer an even wider expressive range, and for
these Vorster is joined by the tenor Ian Partridge in eloquent performances.
MANUEL DE
FALLA - SONGS AND PIANO MUSIC
MERLYN QUAIFE (soprano), LEN VORSTER (piano), ANTHONY FIELD (guitar),
BEN DICKSON (percussion) NAXOS 8.554498 (5357":DDD) CLASSICS TODAY
2000: This enterprising disc contains much that will delight fans of
Manuel de Falla. This lively, intelligently presented, well recorded,
and beautifully performed program is simply a "must" for
lovers of Spanish music. AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE The piano selections
are played
quite effectively and without pretense by Len Vorster. [John Boyer].
We look forward to hearing from you.
