
Simon O'Loughlin Tenor
Simon
O'Loughlin graduated with a Distinction from the Victorian College of
the Arts studying with Dame Joan Hammond. His operatic debut was in
1983 in the title role of Faust for the Waikato Opera, New Zealand,
followed by Nadir in The Pearl Fishers for the Victorian State Opera.
Since then he has sung principal roles for the Western Australian Opera
Company, The Victorian State Opera, State Opera of South Australia and
The New Zealand National Opera.
For
the State Opera of South Australia he has sung leading roles in Il Trovatore
and The Abduction from the Seraglio. Leading roles in The Magic Flute
and The Mikado followed. He has sung Hoffmann in The Tales of Hoffmann
for the New Zealand National Opera in Auckland.
For
the Western Australian Opera he has performed Ernesto in Don Pasquale.
He has sung in modern opera, children's theatre, and in numerous recital
concert and Oratorio performances, including solo performances in the
Royal Albert Hall, London, and in St Matthews Passion for the Royal
Welsh Society in Cardiff.
While
performing for the State Opera of South Australia in recent seasons,
he has also appeared regularly as tenor soloist with the Adelaide Harmony
Choir and the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, in The Creation, Messiah,
St John Passion and St Matthew Passion.
Simon
also took part in the Adelaide's Festival performance Flamma Flamma
and was soloist in the Adelaide Harmony Choir's performance of Stabat
Mater by Rossini.
Simon
is a member of The Bel Canto Opera Company and a winner of the Bond
Family Scholarship for Tenors.
